are u using hydraulic disc brake using dot 4?
check if there's any leakage around the hose. that might be the cause.
Adv-In-Motion - September 13, 2006 03:18 AM (GMT)
Well, that's nothing much you can do about it cos alu do corrode when come into contact with water etc... do check your water bottle cage screw area, bb area and head tube area as well. I guess you'll find more of such corrosion. The only way now to stop the corrosion is either you do a respray of your frame or just scrub off the affected area, clean it and apply a coat of clear nail polish... but all this is just temporary prevention. If you want full protection, then go Ti.

yeah i check the hose but no problems leh....
i think it's due to the poor way running of the hoses (using that kind of hose guide)... =(

Doesn't look gd dude.
An excuse to get a new frame after ur As :hehe:
alano - September 17, 2006 12:45 PM (GMT)
I do agree with Nookie...it does not look good. maybe you may need a second opinion from an expert like Sulaiman (who actually makes frames and would be ain a good position to answer you) or you could just replace the frame pretty soon. Get a second-hand frame maybe or go see one of our listed bikeshops to ask for their opinion. Then again, it could be the paint but what do I know? But if I were you, I would replace that frame.
Take care and good luck.

is that a hole under the guide, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?
Donny - September 18, 2006 03:46 AM (GMT)
clean the hose thoroughly. give a hard squeeze on the lever, see if there's oil flowing out from that area of the hose.
xALmoN - September 18, 2006 04:41 AM (GMT)
but mineral oil will not do anything to the paintjob. infact, i've used mineral oil to 'polish' my frame before...
frankly, might be the rusting bolt contaminating the threads, then somehow, air goes under the paintjob, then got bubblesss.

salt from sweat & humidity (moisture in the air)

Yes, as what Poland have described.
Because, at all the edges of our bike frames, be it the screw hole, the head tube area, BB area, the v-brake boss area, or any area that have paint chip-offs etc. these are the areas where the paint can't actually cover the metal, thus the salt and the humidity gets to it and they corrode. Its not serious thou, however if left unattended for prolong period, the corrosion can actually eats into the metal and makes it brittle. So, its best to cure it at the start.. either by repainting the whole frame or just the affected areas. Else, change to a Titanium frame.

donny i dont think it's the hose leaking cos if it's leaking i'm sure i wont be able to brake right? :P

dont worry. corrosion versus metal fatigue.
It will probably take an alu frame longer to corrode(to fail) than its metal lifespan to fail. SAme goes to cromoly steel. I always recommand a period of 4 years for alu frames.
Not the same case for hi ten steel.
