Title: Weight

CARpper - October 3, 2006 11:33 AM (GMT)
Normally how heavy should a urban/street bike be?

Depends very much on the owner. I have said it before that I am not so concerned about weight. I am more concerned about thinner-walled lighter products that cannot take a thrashing and ultimately crack, break or get mangled. There is no no formula around that says how heavy or how light such a bike should be but remember the fundamental thing: It is a freeride bike and it must be tought to take the street riding you put it through. Keith Bontrager once said: Strong, Light, Cheap. Choose two

There you have it.

It is easy to hit 13kg with an hardtail. Singlespeed, single disc brake, MTB cranks and a 1.8-2kg fork. Frame should be sub 2kg.

For normal jumping hardtails it will probably stay around the ranges of 15-16kg.

wadly_1001 - October 22, 2006 02:03 AM (GMT)
Weight weeine street not very nice, you have limited options such as no cromo frames and no oversized stuff...ti and mag here...Look at my pic below the white bike is about 11.4kg meant for street but i changed it for a cromo frame as weight shouldn't be a factor when building a bike for abuse, xc and all maybe can, but for fr and street etc...weight should be a major issue...
