Title: Gangsa 4X (again ?)
laode.com - June 7, 2007 10:15 AM (GMT)
Latest update...by end June we will be expecting about 3 to 5 truck loads of dirt, not from Nparks but from one of our fellow riders, to be 'dropped' at the site.
We are expecting the right type, if not the closest type, of 'dirt' to be laid at the existing site.
When the 'dirt' arrives, we would need lots of help to distribute the dirt, as far as we can, across the track. Thats where you guys come in. Your involvement in this 'laying' event will be greatly appreciated by the cycling community and it will also mark the beginning of 'Xtreme' mountain biking on our shore. Guys from the Portsdown crew will be helping out in shaping the existing jumps. Its a more-help-less-work / less-help-more-work kinda thing.
We will try to get somemore dirt and convert the existing 'left side' into a 'playground'.
Since the laying and repairing will be done by hand, it would be great if anyone of you out there got 'lobang' to loan, FOC, a mini-excavator and 2 or 3 compactors to aid in the works.
Feel free to drop me a mail, myart@singnet.com.sg , if you have any questions or suggestions.
A7X - June 7, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
hey just wondering. if we go as a group, can we cut away all that bloody grass on the "left side" and restore it to its original beautiful condition?
laode.com - June 8, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
Simply put, the whole place is up to us to 'develop' it. Since I'm taking care of the place, just pop me your ideas and together we can work as a team.
We know how crapped the 'left side' is, like mentioned we will be turning that place into a 'playground' once the material arrives. Mann will be coming up with the 'playground' design.
laode.com - June 10, 2007 06:25 AM (GMT)
Yo guys ! Take note that there are some changes to the line within the 4X track. So please walk thru it before riding through. We have laid lines through the track to indicate where the 'dirt' will be placed and new mini-berms to be built.
Due to limited resources, both in manpower and materials, temporarily it will be a dual course. Unitll we get more stuffs then we will expand it to its original 4X 'status'.
Please do email me any suggestions and comments.
laode.com - June 14, 2007 12:07 PM (GMT)
2 trucks of 'dirt' have just been deposited at the site (tomorrow 2 more). Tomorrow I will post the number of help I need to 'dirt' the place. Most probably it will be on both Sat and Sun in shifts (so we can ride next day ! heh heh heh)
Only you and I can make it happen !

just want to know if you guys are at Gangsa every sundays ?
Also from what time to what time will you guys be there for the building ?
laode.com - June 20, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
Most Sundays we're there between 8am to 12pm but this weekend, being race weekend, we have yet to confirm.
As for the site re-work, currently I'm going thru the planning process 'cause we only got 4 heaps of 'gold', if you know what I mean, and I need to grade the place as in basic, intermediate and advance.
There will be no track modification, everything has to be the same for liability reasons. Priority will be to re-build the newbie jump and the 'left' side followed by the actual track.
Work should start on 25/06/07 and I will keep you guys posted the actual arrangements. ;)
laode.com - June 20, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
Forgot to mention, the 'left' side is not rideable. Only the newbie jump and the main track is temp ok
Johnny - June 21, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
Alrite, i'll try to find some time to go help build up the place also.
laode.com - June 21, 2007 07:55 AM (GMT)
OK guys here's the arrangements...
This weekend...no major work 'cause the tools can only come in on Monday
Weekdays
26/06/07 to 29/06/07 - 9am to 12pm
i) Pulling out the creepers;
ii) Clearing the grass
iii) Dig shallow trenches
iv) Create steps at the starting hill
Weekends
30/06/07 & 01/07/07 - 9am to 5pm
i) Convert all doubles to small table tops or step-downs;
ii) Improve the newbie jump
iii) Create 'flow' for the 'left' side
iv) Improve the small triple
Work priority will be on the 'left' side. The main track will be worked on during the month of July. We're crossing our fingers for more 'dirt' and equipments to repair the main track.
I should be having 3 changkols; 3 spades; 3 rakes; 3 soil baskets but only 1 wheel barrow (will try to 'rob' another one heh heh heh).
Anyone of you whom like to donate (gotta be think skin here) drinks; snacks or lunch please let me know. Before you come down please give me a call at 96718045 just in case I'm not at the site.
Override - June 22, 2007 02:35 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the info ! Will make time to be there next weekend..
Cheers ! :ride:
laode.com - June 23, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
I am currently working on the doubles beside the newbie jump. Maskrider & I have topped it but do not use this new mini table top yet 'cause we need to widen it more. I have placed safety tape on it, so please don remove them.
During the repair process, 25/06/07 to 01/07/07, please avoid that area. Would appreciate if you would ride down or up on the actual XC trail and not the jump area. We are trying to complete the repairs as scheduled.
The renewed 'left' side will be friendly with berms and jumps safe enough for an XC bike to roll over or jump over.
laode.com - June 29, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
Hi guys, this weekend repair works will be going on at the Gangsa Hill 4X track (the 'left' side only). Please avoid the route (ones with the jumps) you guys used to ride thru 'cause we'll be moving earth along that area.
The newbie jump will also be closed for repairs so this weekend no jumping. DO NOT USE the mini table top or any of the exposed 'jumps', the earth have not been packed in yet.
WE DO NOT NEED ANY INJURIES TO STOP US FROM PUSHING THIS SPORT.
The place will be 're-opened' by 07/07/07 promising a safe and fast ride for any type of bikes.
FYI the main 4X track will not be repaired until furthur notice.
laode.com - July 1, 2007 02:49 PM (GMT)
Wanna say a big thank you to...
John - the stranger we meet during weekday mornings
Laile & Abu - for carving the cool XC trail
Donut Rider - for keeping me company on Sat morning
Maskrider & daughter - for the steps by the starting hill, now so much easier to push up
Oldman Jumpers aka Mark; Ian; Lai & Eric
Mr Kane & Vrox - Mr Kane your arm power lah & Vrox your 'age' shows that trailwork is not only for the 'old'
The two chaps - sorry didn't get you name and yup next time round bring your 'other' bike to 'flow'!
When's the next trailwork? Everyday is trailwork day, its just that on Sundays we get more company! We ride what we built! The satisfactory part is getting to test & decide the ride that we want...right guys?
Oh yeah, Myke and John (the ang mor one)...you miss the fun ha ha ha
IMPORTANT...the track is still not ready so do not ride it, no say I no warn you ah
laode.com - July 3, 2007 01:28 PM (GMT)
Here's the update on the repair work...
First...the newbie jump, let's call it 1st roller, is ready. I have just flatten the receiver and landing should be ok. Do not cover it with carpet 'cause I need to know how, where & far you guys land from the tire marks. The table top beside it is not ready 'cause I need to widen the receiver side, hopefully can complete by this Saturday.
Back to the 1st roller, if you're taking it please take it from the small mount at the starting hill. DO NOT TAKE IT FROM THE TOP OF THE STARTING HILL UNLESS YOU ARE SKILLFUL ENOUGH TO 'DIP' ACCURATELY AT THE RECEIVER. If not you may go 'Jingle Bells', if you know what I mean.
Second...we are working on a 'switch' at the 'left' side and I have put a rope across it. The switch is still in the process of alignment to the next jump, this Sunday should be settled. The shape is not smoothen yet so don go hero at it can?
Thirdly...we are also cutting an interesting short XC line around the area. I have tested it and I must say very shiok. I will update again once it is ready.
Till then...ride safe guys!
laode.com - July 5, 2007 12:30 PM (GMT)
Sunday's regular gathering have been changed to Saturday from 8.30am to 12pm.
Sunday? I will still be there in the morning
remember to contact me at 96718045 to re-confirm my prescence
laode.com - July 7, 2007 06:39 AM (GMT)
Finally the rain came...todays' trailwork was cancelled but I was there doing abit of this and that. The table top is still in the process of levelling and widening the receiver end so it is not safe to use yet. The roller is OK but due to the weather, the receiver may be abit too tacky and slippery for newbies, so use your initiatives k?
Yesterday evening met 2 riders enjoying themselves at the site and I must say they set a very good example. Why? 'cause they got themselves well protected with helmet and guards. That's what it should and always will be. It makes no diff how experience you are, you just need to get yourself well protected in order to enjoy Gangsa Hill every now and then.
Here are the pics of the roller and table top...
My WebpageThe furthur one is the receiver side of the roller. The forground one is the table-top which just need to widen abit on the left side
My WebpageThe approach to the table top, like mentioned, need to level the surface and I have unrolled to carpet so you guys can't use the jump yet
My Webpagemy 'landed' property heh heh heh
Tomorrow I will be there again between 8.30am to 12pm. Expect a much smaller crowd this time round but if you guys are free enough to pop by and play mud, give me a ring at 96718045 in case the weather turns bad again
laode.com - July 10, 2007 07:03 AM (GMT)
The 'left' side is almost done and this Sunday we'll be there to test it. Time will be the usual 8.30am to 12pm.
Sneak peek...

laode.com - July 13, 2007 11:23 AM (GMT)
Finally, the 'left' side is ready to ride. Just need abit of touch ups here and there. Watch out for this 2 jumps though,
My Webpage &
My Webpage it will be complete by this Sunday.
I have blocked certain part of the trail 'cause I need the grass to grow back again. Here
My Webpage and here
My Webpage. Would appreciate if you all can take this section to ride down and the other side for climbing.
Lastly if you're hitting the sections, we have placed directional white markers, walk through before hitting it. Take note to launch from the left (
My Webpage ) so you land in the middle (
My Webpage) and not on the edge.
It may not be the best section but I hope you all will enjoy it like I do. This Sunday we'll be there to test it in the morning from 8.30am to 12pm.
PLEASE READ THIS...
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WALK THROUGH THE SECTIONS BEFORE ANY ATTEMPT
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
IMPROPER USE MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL HARM
THE AREA IS UNSUPERVISED
USERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR SAFETY GEARS (HELMETS, GLOVES, ELBOW AND SHIN GUARDS)
IN AN EMERGENCY CALL 995 TO PICK UP INJURED FROM BANGKIT ROAD BLK 276
RIDE WITHIN YOUR ABILITY
DO NOT RIDE IN WET WEATHER (IT WILL DAMAGE THE OBSTACLES)
REPORT MAJOR DAMAGE TO ME AT myart@singnet.com.sg (with pics if possible)
Remember ride hard ride safe and don forget your protection !!!
laode.com - July 15, 2007 06:56 AM (GMT)
Today we tested the lines and must be thick skinned and say "It was K double O L!"
Hope you guys with the XC bikes find it manageable too. Though there are some interesting crashes, due to the geometry of your bikes, next time take it easy at the humps ok? :-) This week we'll try to get Nparks approval to put up directional signs so bikes will be coming up by the other side for safety reasons.
We'll just need to touch up the 'flow lines' so it look more obvious (today ones are temporary only), level up the table top and maybe 'round' the top of the newbie jump and that's about it.
Let your suggestions/comments/ flow thru my email myart@singnet.com.sg so we can make it safer and funkier!Till we meet at the trails...remember your protection and please...no riding when the surface is wet ok?
laode.com - July 15, 2007 02:11 PM (GMT)
Dedicated to all those whom have helped on the 'left' side in one way or another...before and after pics!

laode.com - July 25, 2007 05:11 AM (GMT)
Next on the list,
My Webpage &
My Webpage, in the process of clearing it for you guys to ride over the weekend!
laode.com - July 29, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)
As mentioned previously on the traffic of Gangsa Hill 'left' side, I have just barrier tape the finishing section. I have also placed 2 temporary signages to warn and direct cyclist to the correct route to get up of the hill.
My WebpageMy WebpageMy WebpageHope fellow cyclist will understand that these measures are necessary to avoid ascending & descending cyclist bumping into each other. With the re-openning of the last berm,
My Webpage , the speed riders coming down from it is much faster and bumps can be real nasty.
Your cooperation is much needed by climbing up by the side as directed by the temporary sign.
We would like to take this opportunity to inform users of the 'left' side that it is made up of rollers and you are NOT SUPPOSED TO JUMP ANYONE OF THEM unless you are very experienced in your judgement. Jumping on a level ground is very diffrent from jumping on an incline.
Till then...ride hard ride safe !
laode.com - August 5, 2007 07:51 AM (GMT)
Just came back from Gangsa and I must say its bad ass man! The training section, instead of calling it 'the left side', is supa fast if you really take the line. Today's time trail timing was betwwen 21 to 30 secs. Me the old bugger taking the honour of the 30 secs timing heh heh. I promise you anyone can hit the 30 sec mark easily after a few practice runs.
The rest of you out there, no diff if you're a newbie or regular, next weekend just come and share the experience with us. We'll be going 'one on one' or 'solo', the choice is yours.
Big welcome hug to new friends Jeremy; Khyo, the other Mann and the 2 ladies & 1 guy (I missed anyone?). We're looking forward to you joining us again just like what Terence; Jon & Cheryl did(I missed anyone?). And Masky...quick get your bike cannot wait leow!!!

Yo guys! we have just opened up an old set of doubles build by the previous Gangsa crew. Wanna say thanks to Mark, Ian and the young guns (sorry didn't get all your names) for their effort in clearing the area.
As usual, put on your safety gears. It may not look intimidating but don't take things for granted k? We need you back to hit the jumps ;)
laode.com - November 29, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
Yo guys! If you're planning to pop by Gangsa Hill to try the new drop (
My Webpage) ... sorry to mention I will be closing it(
My Webpage) for 2 weeks to re-work on it. The one you saw was just a mock up.
You can still try the smaller one (
My Webpage) but please be very comfortable in clearing the mini one (
My Webpage) before getting yourself in trouble with the smaller one.
As usual, it is a must for you to put on atleast a helmet, full face better, when using the drops. Caution signs (
My Webpage) are they're there for a reason ok?
Remember to ride hard ride safe!
laode.com - December 3, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
INJURIES AT GANGSA
Guess have to admit that there have been an increase of injuries after 'reopenning' the Gangsa jumps. Nope, I am not going to stop reopenning Gangsa but I am will still go ahead as planned since D1.
Crashes and injuries are inevitable in any sports or rather anything we do. We cannot avoid them but we can either reduce the chances of having it or the impact of the injury by following safety precautions.
The seriouse injuries that I've seen/known at Gangsa are very painful but glad that the riders themselves have safely protected themselves. Some of you may feel they abit overdoing it with full face helmets and body armour. They put it on with a reason 'cause without it they, believe it or not, would have smashed their face or the recent case where one of the newbies broke his collar bone luckily he had his body armour on. Just this morning, one of our friend crashed while doing a simple jump. He went up ok and landed ok but...shit happens and he crashed. Good thing his helmet cracked it could have been his head if he had his cap on.
What I'm trying to stress, I'm not the only one saying, is please put on your safety gears when you're using those obstacles at Gangsa Hill. I know that these helmets and 'body pads' does not totally avoid but atleast it will reduce the impact of the injury.
I have plans of having drops and wall rides or maybe some real northshore stuffs but the 'guys upstairs' will not approve of it if they see anyone of you using the current obstacles without safety measures. Atleast put on a helmet. I really really need you guys to back me up on this. Make my precious time spent under the sun or in the rain building up the place worth it for both you and me.
Thank you very much for your time reading this ;)
