Title: which brake?

lime - November 18, 2007 04:09 PM (GMT)
Hi there, new to the forums. Just wanna know which set of brakes are good. I do a lot of off-roading and sometimes street (no skills lah  ). My budget around 200-400+/-. I just want a pair of powerful brakes, not taking into consideration of the weight. Here are a few of my choices:

Avid BB7, heard lots of good reviews bout it, and it's mechanical, which means no hassle!

Hygia Elite, bling, but dunno powerful anot.

Deore XT, reliability

and Saint.

If any of u think that those mentioned arent good or whatever, recommend me a good pair pls.

Shoot awaaay.... :shoot:

bb7 is overpriced and the most hassle.

Johnny - November 19, 2007 12:29 AM (GMT)
My votes goes to XT.

Donny - November 19, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
BB7 is lotsa hassle. cable needs to be lubricated time to time.

XT or saint in my opinion.

line7 - November 19, 2007 04:45 AM (GMT)
07 xt and saint is basically the same thing but comes with different pads and color.

But the 08 xt is 20% stronger and comes with a stroke adjustment.
07 XTR is also supposed to be 20% stronger but without the stroke adjustment.

My vote goes to the 08 xt. From what i heard L&T do sell that set of brakes in your budget.

thanks for the fast response. I'm thinking of the 08 XT or Saint too.
Line7, when u say that the 07 XT and Saint are basically the same, are the price same too?
I dunno much about hydros cos been using mechs and vees only.

Which one of these two u guys think are bang for my buck?

hongyi_2000 - November 19, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)

the prices are surprising about the same. 08 xt definately is the best choice right now.

yeah XT is a good brake for your budget.

Donny - November 20, 2007 04:58 AM (GMT)
i've used shimano, hayes, magura, avids finally back to shimano again due to the weather in Singapore.

shimano & magura are highly recommended for local weather.

Saint user, and for a good year and a half too.

Very happy with my Saints, and they stop you dead in the tracks. Feels very acute as well.

Got mine from Patrick, boss of Eclipse Sports, and never looked back since.

What brakes are you using now, by the way?

i'm torn between the saint and xt. Have the 08 saint arrived yet, or there isn't one. Cos i only see 08 XT. Maybe i'll get the saint as i'm planning to use saint all-over my bike, (brakes, crank etc..)

Currently using tektro IO mech. Power so-so. <_<
Need a change lah :)
