Title: Anybody interested in ... This kinda ride
Description: SG- MY ride

neverquit - December 1, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
I was pretty interested in riding from singapore - PERAK
and back

Of course this can't be done alone [thatswy im here] nor can it be done in oneday

but i was wondering if there was any one who is active/interested in this kinda cycle

please do reply here and if it does work out .. who knows, we'd be the craziest kids [ ok maybe just me cos im 14] cyclin towards perak and back

its at least 800KM long [ there and back = 800km]
Tobe accurate maybe approx. 1000km.

my plan =
start at around 6am
Cycle till about 10pm straight and we should be havin our asses somewhere close to perak, or maybe sleep over at ipoh; then we'd continue the next day to perak, then we'd head straight back to singapore and be at singapore at approx.

or maybe have a 3rd day...

(: please reply soon guys!!! :towelcheer:

does not sounds like a simple ride.

here's are some important points to look out when going on a touring ride.
1) are you familiar with the route? map availability?
2) is your bike made to handle just distance?
3) are you experienced enough to lead the ride safe & back?
4) any qualified riders with the essential bike mechanical skill? replacement parts such as inner tubes etc.

give these a thought.

neverquit - December 2, 2007 05:44 AM (GMT)
OF COURSE ITS NOT A SIMPLE RIDE...

FOr the directions, ive got a pretty clear cut of where to go cos ive taken car trips to IPOH and back quite a few times and

even if we don't
I can read maps well

for the bike distance.. im sure most bikers here should have realitively quality bikes rightt...?

of course im not experienced to lead; but i can lead [altho its my first time LOL]

for the mechanics, thats one of the main reasons why im here baby... :yippee:

xALmoN - December 2, 2007 11:09 AM (GMT)
I doubt you'll be able to make it.

Bicycles aren't allowed on the highway.

And its unrealistic, considering your age..

Where will you guys stay at night? Are there designated night stop points? Will there be meal stops?

There are a lot of factors. Do you really know malaysia that well? And i dont think its very possible to cycle 16 hours straight. Even at a constant pace of 25-30km/h its not very feasible. You might think you can do it, but people prepare WAY in advance for long distance rides.

Lots of endurance and stamina training.

zick - December 2, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
I noe this sounds crazy. but I might jus be interested.

Meal stops can be impromptu. the main problem would be tire punctures which slows the journey down.

safety cycling along the trunk roads are a main concern yeah....

ivantcs - December 2, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
maybe you should try a round island ride.
should be about 150km
should take less than a day
if cant make it still can take cab home. ;)

I agree with that actually. At least we will still be in Singapore no matter what happens.

I support that island thing first?
I mean since we're all [ or at least me first] first timers in island wide/cross country riding?

Is anyone set for this?
and since this is just within singapore i dont mind any day btwn 17th dec-31st [come on not christmas (:]

Donny - December 3, 2007 09:50 AM (GMT)
i dunno if it's okie. in the other thread, you are talking about getting hasa. i seriously do not have any faith with hasa bikes on long dist rides especially they are meant for marketing needs.

and wan go how fast
mayb slow slow 15-20km/h on road enough already la

neverquit - December 3, 2007 03:43 PM (GMT)
for a 150km ride [for example]

I think we should ride at around 29-34km/h constant and about 40km/h when we are going thru areas that are just ... going thru such as construction sites

15/20km/h is almost like running speed/jogging... no diff !!

HASA bike ...

hahaa thanks i also know that brand is abit bocahp
but is dat what u mean? that HASA isnt a good brand?
dang!!!

Hi are you using roadbike or mountainbike?

If you want to ride long distance, on Wed 5th Dec, or Thurs 6th Dec. Please tell me as soon as possible.

I have a route which I ride, can vary it between 100km or 175km. Feel like going for a long distance ride this week.

Hope you stay around Punggol Park, then the ride can start there at 6.30am in the morning.

I also on holiday too, free to ride in the daytime again. Just remember to bring a water bottle or two. Some satchets of salt and sugar.

If we're fast enough we might finish the ride in time for lunch at 1pm.

Anybody else want to come along?

if you can run 15-20km/h as average speed for jogging
then you are a very fast runner already
maybe 20+km/h will be better
30+ seems fast
i dont have speedo. so cant really judge the speed.

I remember in 1 issue of What MTB or MTB rider, a bunch of ang mor did a long epic XC trip in china with Hasa. And if u look at Hasa webbie, a chinese lady won an international event also using a Hasa.

I am interested in super slow overnight round island rides (I on full suss and super draggy tyres). Can call me if anybody organizing. 96924203.

I got a suggestion, why dont we form up a group and start riding short - mid distance first to gauge each other's pace, then slowly go further and further.

Havent attempted a RI before, my longest trip clocked was abt 70km I think.

Sengkang-Tiong Hin-Marina Square-CBD-Vivo city -up mt faber - pasir panjang road - clementi road - 6th ave - lornie road - amk ave 5 - Sengkang

Whole trip took bout 6 hours including supper, tok cock, smoke break, shopping @ Tiong Hin etc(whole point is to make the trip enjoyable right?).

Give u a rough gauge of speed. On the way to Vivo City the other night, we were doing 27-35, Back to Sengkang that time, we were down to 22-23 average.

Anybody can advise on the RI route (understand that there are 2 different routes, 160km one and 120km one) and 1/2 island route?

can win lance armstrong with a budget steel roadie with sora drivetrain?

this is the correct route.. been through a few times..with L&T cycling group. If u include the coastal total about 130+km.. if u just break off before going into coastal around 110+km..
the tips to round island is to relax not to stress yourself out.. the 1st time i go round island i try to follow the road bikes with my mtb on rigid and slicks(going at around 39km/h) and the result is after i reached LCK road.. i am already limit to 25 max...
The 2nd time i go for round island i am going at a relax ride of around 30km/h all the way and some sprinting at some parts e.g. mandai,westcoast,etc.. and i didn't have any problems completeing it and still able to maintain 30km/h after the whole ride.
This shows that not to chiong is the key to ride a round island.

i think if we go, we will go much slower
maybe at about 20-25km/h
we are on mountain bike with knobby tires..

Interested in a slow slack ride either early morning starting at 6.00am
or evening starting from 6pm. Not necessary to do a round island ride,
maybe start with two (North and West) or any other combination in the
future once the route are familiarised.

You can start by making a commitment here by putting your screen
name here and then decide on the date of the ride.

The ride is for anyone of any age with any kind of bike including foldable
with at least 16" wheelset.

Suitability:
Riders who are new to cycling, anyone who wants to enjoy riding in a group,
people who want to know fellow cyclists etc.

Would love to join you this weekend but arghh, i have my final year project to clear and submit by this monday. Busy busy weekend. I don't mind a sunday morning ride though, start early and end at around 12nn-1pm, after that gotta go home and clear my final report. Anyone in for that?

Do you join this L&T event often? I don't mind joining you. what time will it approx. end?

Yangster - January 10, 2008 10:32 AM (GMT)
i joined this ride almost everytime when i am free... the people there are good and they give me alot of help when i have problems. Many advices and experiences. L&T ride normally is at nite de due to the people need to work and have family time during weekend. Once in a while there will be a huge gathering of the east side for round island, the last gathering gathers around 100+ riders.
For friday ride i think it will end around 3~4am depends on distance travelled and route taken. Time cannot really be judge as there might be problems arising during the ride. But normally 3~4am will be the latest.
Can add me in msn or call me for more info.
or u can take a look in this blog, created by the ride organiser. Mr Raja
http://www.togoparts.com/members/viewblog.php?cp=10429
His blog, from here u can know more about the ride profile and many things~

How about next Saturday 18th Jan, 2008 starting at 6.00pm
Meeting place should be somewhere convenience to all parties.

Here are some suggestions (just choose one)

1. Newton Hawker Centre

2. Suntec City at the Fountain of Wealth

3. Kallang MRT station

Of course you have to start earlier from your home to reach these destinations
so that the group can all gather at 6pm for the nite ride. Make sure you got
your crash helmet, front and back blinkers and water

Give your suggestions so that participants can interact. One must learn to
give and take regarding the aspect of convenience and inconvenience.
The ride is a slow slack ride with plenty of stops to cool off and most important
to have the feel of the inpact of riding in a group with proper cycling discipline.
The route can be decided later or it can be a ride to nowhere. Just have fun
and feel the freedom once you are riding with a discipline group.

to have the feel of the inpact of riding in a group with proper cycling discipline.
The route can be decided later or it can be a ride to nowhere. Just have fun
and feel the freedom once you are riding with a discipline group.

its a good idea but could we meet in like the afternoon ?

Possible only in the late afternoon to avoid the heavy traffic.
Also much cooler to ride after 4pm.
Maybe meet around that time and finish the ride at around
8pm. What do you all think?
