Title: Taking Them off the Menu
Description: What other items should be taken off?

There are people who have craving for such thing like "turtle soup"
but it seems such food are slowly disappearing in the heartland.
Perhaps the calling to save the Turtle is getting the right feedback
for National Geographic
"Saving Turtles by Taking Them off the Menu
Turtles are increasingly threatened by human exploitation and development-related pressures. Of particular concern is the unrelenting demand from the Asian food and traditional medicine market with more than half of the continent's 90 species endangered or critically endangered."

i think shark fin soup should be like banned completely..
who cares if it tastes good [imo it tastes crap anyway].. the way they collect it is just inhumane..
i mean how would you like it if someone put u on a boat, chopped off your leg and then dumped u in the middle of the ocean to die...
if they were to use the whole shark and not just waste the rest and dump the bodies of the fish then fair enough but its just plain animal creulty to do what they normally do....

Humans are known to do anything for the sake of money.
They won't care or have any remorse or feelings for the crime
so long as they get what they want.
Current news would witness such unbearable human behavior
and unless there is a national call to stop such activities with
laws being introduced for severe punishment many of the animal
species will varnish from earth in twenty years time.
What about the fantasy for tiger's penis as a must have medicine
for building strong body sensation to sexual activity?

I've tried Shark's Fin soup, honestly it taste rather good.
But nothing special, would i kill a chop a shark fin and let it die,NO!
Would i pay $100 for a bowl,NO!
i think those people who claim are 'sharks fin aficionados' are just BS-ing themselves, there are a million much better, cheaper, tastier dishes out there.
Why sharks fins?
Its all about status baby, many have the self proclaimed notion that if one can afford and eat sharks fin regularly,he is consideres a BIG SHOT.
A BIG SHOT OF SHIT more like it.
Sorry if i sound very rude and stuff, but seriously things like this pisses me off so badly.
I'm an Animal lover and it pains me to see humans doing this to feed their 'needs'.
I'll have plain ol' chicken soup over shark's fin soup anyday.
Anyday.

chicken, or shark, both are lives.
chickens can be farmed, sharks, MAY be farmed.
turtle soup nowadays, sometimes use terrapins. as in those red-eared sliders most have kept as pets.
now, before anyone squeals cruelty. These terrapins are getting to be a pest in singapore. Introduced, they have no natural predators. So they're proliferating. Its okay to eat them.
of course, i prefer the soft shell turtle version of turtle soup. They're being farmed now. Their growth rate is tremendous anyway.
People talk about exploitation. The same people who live comfortably in their houses, drive their cars, ride their bicycles. All at the expense of countless animal that have lost their lives due to habitat reduction and 'development'.
EVERY comfort you have now, displaces some native animal from their rightful habitat, causing loss of lives blablabla.
I think getting poisoned by heavy metals is worse than getting your fins lobbed off and bleeding to death, or getting your throat slit.
If you think something sucks, don't just complain, do something about it.

This thread is not about killing animals for food, it's about killing endangered animals in an in-humane way.
When a chicken is killed, everything (except maybe the feathers) are used for something. The current method for collecting shark fin, is to simply cut the fin off a live shark and dump it back into the ocean - without the fin, the shark cannot swim properley, therefor it cannnot feed and it dies. This is not only a waste, but certain breeds of sharks, particularly those hunted for their fins are actually getting close to extinction.

yeah, how can you compare a shark to a chicken.
Well i still think its inhumane to eat shark fins and turtle soup and what have you.
xALmoN - June 10, 2008 03:03 PM (GMT)
a life is a life.
as for sharks. sure, endangered.
the asian softshell is farmed. but they're killed pretty painfully. but then again, so are every manner of livestock.
we've read about inhumane ways chickens are treated and stuff. just because everything of a chicken is used, they can be thrown in overcrowded places? So they can suffer pain and stuff, and are less important because they're common?
*shrug*
Just because something gets more coverage doesn't mean its more important. Some species of possums are going extinct due to FARMING. They die and become part of the ground, nothing is used. I think getting crushed to oblivion is pretty inhumane too. Massacre. Nobody cares. Your crops are more important.
So are your bikes/cars/metal stuff.
Mining causes pollution. Wiping out POPULATIONS of fish and animals. Now they're endangered. Just because there isn't much coverage. YOU don't know about it. Read about gold mining.
Your fuel and energy needs.
Go read about oil exploration in the amazon. Yes, there IS oil there. And there are countless species of animals dying out too. =D
*shrug* its not just about food. its about the hypocrisy. One just stands and comments without considering everything else. the things he does, the things he's affecting. He just comments.

Thats y we, cyclists took up this sport as a form of hobby or transport to become environmentally friendly...
Food wise i dun really have much comments cos i dun really care about which animal i eat though i prefer chicken over any other animal any day...
Just remember that we should continue to cycle as long as it is possible so that our carbon footprint for transportation is reduced to the minimal...
Cheers!!!
