Title: why is this happening?

voodoomagic - May 25, 2006 08:21 AM (GMT)
Just switched to a road bike. Currently using a Scott S30 in stock condition. I feel the strain on my wrist when i'm riding.
I'll usually place my hand above the shifters with 2 fingers on the brake lever. Am i doing something wrong here or is the bar not suited to me?

This might be because you are putting too much weight on your wrisit , thus the pain. And the possible reasons for this is that either your riding posture is wrong, thus all the weight is exerted to your wrist. Or the fitting of the bike is wrong. thus the pain on your wrist =)

thanks sendoh..

so how can i actually correct this? should i lower the seats slightly? i'm about 1.74m using a 52cm frame... shouldnt be a prob rite?

Then i guess possible reason would be the stem length , or your riding posture. i think it should most likely be the posture where you relax your shoulder and let all your weight be focus on your wrist.

i dun really like the stem actually... i'm more used to a 90mm than 100mm..... could this be the prob?

*how come this forum so few roadies??? hm...

LOL... sometimes when the stem length is too long , which cause you to stretch too far upforward , your weight tends to be focus on your wrist... I think you should drop by a professional roadbike , bikeshop like cycleworx or rodalink and tell the boss your problem. i guess they will glady help you

U started ridin roadies not long ago correct?

Flip the stem, tilt the bars up and move your saddle forward... as you get more and more used to it then lower ur position...

maybe roadies are on some triathlon forum or bikeaid stuff?

wrist strains more symtomatic of positioning to shift/brake levers while differences in stem/saddle reach would be reflected more as back strains.

Experiment with rotating the handlebars downwards such that your wrists extends from your forearm in 1 straight line and not bent. If you do feel better, then you may need to permanantly reposition the shifters either higher or lower on the bars

ok.. thanks guys! i think i'll go try out a new angle for my handlebar tonight...

Zhephyr: yup.. i just started road biking recently. used to be on a mtb but on the road only. haha...

SeNdoH: i'll be popping down to Cyclecraft this weekend to get my angles adjusted and stem changed. Thanks for all the advises.
Maybe we should invite more bike fanatics to this forum. Seems a little dead.
