Hi people...
i want to change my current coil to a stiffer one for my dhx5 on my heckler.
how to choose a correct coil spec?
i weight 65kg
Trial and error.
You switch off your pro-pedal.
Measure the sag while you are on your bike(with full gear). It should be 20%(for xc) of your stroke.
You have to tikam tikam how much harder/softer you need lor. Usually a rise/drop in 50lbs makes alot of difference already.
Than you have to determine your stroke. One way is to see the previous spring.
Spring details on the spring will be in this format:
Eg 400lbs X 2.35.
That means the spring will need 400lbs to move 1 inch of travel and has a stroke of 2.35inch.
Stroke means the travel of the spring.
Another way to know the stroke of your shock is to measure your shock's exposed "stanction".
Anyway, different bikes have different requirements. I am 60kg, but i am using a 350lbs spring for my haro. But for a heckler i may have to run 300lbs to acheive the same amount of sag.
Different leverage ratios will warrant different springs. Go measure your sag lor. Or just buy a 50lbs heavier spring.
